students and encourages individual expression. Students' work is openly
displayed throughout the school, community and at the biannual art show in Frankston.
BIKE EDUCATION
At Naranga we have almost 20 bikes catering for students with a variety of abilities. Through this program conducted by appropriately qualified staff, we aim to teach students a variety of skills including road rules, safety, traffic awareness and bike control. Many students experience a bike camp where we learn to work together, ride together, show leadership skills and have fun.
HOME ECONOMICS
In Home Economics, we place importance on students understanding and learning to follow hygiene and safe working practices in the kitchen.
Students cook and taste a wide variety of foods and learn to recognize and use many of the pieces of equipment and a range of different ingredients.
We also practice table setting, table manners and discuss the importance of good nutrition for health and well-being.
Home economics is taught from Primary through to Senior Secondary School in a modern kitchen facility.
HORTICULTURE
Our Horticulture Program aims to give our students a love of the garden as well as giving them new skills. Some students chose to work in the garden areas during their free time.
Naranga School has a large vegetable patch and grounds in which to plant a variety of trees, shrubs and flowers, often donated by local nurseries. The students are taught to be safety conscious in the way they handle tools and to use protective clothing.
Many of our students enjoy lunchtime gardening.
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
The information technology program at Naranga offers students of all abilities the opportunity to develop their computer skills and to use the computers in both the classrooms and the designated computer laboratories.
Specialist I.T. teachers provide students with the chance to use still and movie cameras,
scanners and multi media programs and to record daily activities at school or to record special events. This allows student work to be presented in an exciting format which is highly motivating.

LIBRARY
The library program at Naranga School supports and encourages students in relation to their passive recreational interests. It also plays an important role in the area of curriculum support where staff develop and implement a wide range of programs throughout the school. The students enjoy borrowing books, videos and DVDs from this facility.
All the primary school students attend a one hour library session each week. This focuses on both skill development and activities that promote a love of literature. The library is also open twice a week at lunch times so that students can borrow or return resources or simply engage in some quiet hands on activities that are not open to them outside.
WOODWORK
The wood program operates in the Middle School and upwards and emphasises safety at all levels.
The program demonstrates practical skills such as hammering, sawing, sanding gluing etc and teaches students the skills to operate basic tools in the creation of articles that the students can take home and enjoy.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Physical Education at Naranga emphasises making physical activityan enjoyable and rewarding experience through the main focus of participation. The aims of the Physical Education program are;
- to allow students to develop confidence and achieve their full physical potential in basic fundamental motor skills and sport specific skills.
- to develop social skills, team work and gain experience of leadership.
- To continue development of fitness and positive attitudes to physical activity so that these can carry into later life.
Some units of work in primary years include fundamental motor skills, gymnastics, skipping skills and ball games. Middle Years include minor games, team sports, athletics and fitness. Secondary Years include recreational activities, individual sports, team sports and opportunities to represent Naranga School in a number of interschool carnivals.
MUSIC
Music at Naranga continues to grow each year. With an ongoing development of resources, students are involved in music performance, technical and theory elements.
Students also have the opportunity to be active in Percussion and guitar ensembles as well as interested students having the opportunity to use the musical equipment to form their own rock and roll band.
A highlight of the year is the school concert where the students perform musical items, many of which emanate from the music classes.
DANCE
Naranga is most fortunate in gaining the services of an experienced dance instuctor one day per week. Student's confidence and creativity are enhanced by this program which provides instruction in classical ballet, tap and boot scooting for the boys. Their talents are highlighted at the end of year concert where the senior students provide dancing from a well loved musical production such as "Grease" or "Saturday Night Fever"
Through the dance program the school has developed a strong connection with the Australian Ballet and many fortunate students have been able to see their productions.
