Whole school approach

School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support

Naranga School uses School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support, known as SWPBS, to create a safe, respectful and consistent learning environment for all students.

SWPBS is a whole-school framework that supports positive behaviour, respectful relationships and student responsibility. It focuses on teaching expected behaviours, recognising positive choices and providing additional support for students who may need it.

Naranga School is proud to be recognised by the Department of Education as a Bronze Level S-WPBS School.

School Wide Positive Behaviour Support

S-WPBS is a proactive, team-based framework for creating and sustaining safe and effective schools.

How we support positive behaviour

Naranga School supports positive behaviour through clear expectations, consistent language and proactive teaching.

Our approach includes:

  • A school-wide matrix of expectations for different areas of the school
  • Explicit teaching of expected behaviours
  • Proactive strategies that support appropriate behaviour
  • Modelling and reinforcing positive choices
  • Additional support for students who need extra help
  • A team approach to create consistency and predictability

This helps students understand what positive behaviour looks like, sounds like and feels like across different school settings.

Our expectation logos

Naranga’s expectation logos were designed by students alongside a professional graphic designer.

Students explored shapes, lines and themes, with the final designs inspired by the four elements: Earth, Fire, Wind and Water.

These logos are also connected to Naranga’s school House Groups and help students visually connect with the school’s expectations.

Expected behaviours matrix

Naranga has developed a behaviour matrix that outlines expectations across classroom and non-classroom areas of the school.

The matrix helps create consistency for students and staff by clearly showing what each expectation looks like in different settings.

Through this approach, students are supported to build positive relationships, take responsibility and feel safe and connected at school.
